BASIC INFORMATION
The game “Queen of Hearts” is a game of chance where a successful player wins a portion of the money held in a Jackpot and, at the same time, a portion of the Jackpot is awarded to The Mohawk Foundation, a not-for-profit organization.
The game begins with a player buying one or more tickets for $1.00 each, 6 for $5.00, 15 for $10.00, 25 for $15.00, 50 for $30.00 or 100 for $50.00. The tickets sold during any given week will all be placed in a spreadsheet and randomized. Each week, at the time and place shown on the schedule, one ticket will be drawn by use of a random number generator to determine our contestant. After that we will randomly select an envelope to open for them.
If the Queen of Hearts is drawn, the Jackpot will be paid out as described in the Rules. If not, the game continues until the Queen of Hearts is drawn.
In addition, there are smaller prizes if the player does not draw the Queen of Hearts but draws the queen of diamonds, clubs, or spades or one of the two jokers. In that case, a smaller amount is paid to the successful player, and the game continues to the next week.
Review the “Official Rules” below for a description in more detail on the method of play.
OFFICIAL RULES
The purchase of a raffle ticket is evidence of the player’s agreement with, and willingness to conform to, all Rules, as described below.
All tickets are $$1.00 each, 6 for $5.00, 15 for $10.00, 25 for $15.00, 50 for $30.00 or 100 for $50.00 with no limit on the number of tickets that may be purchased by a player. Tickets may be purchased prior to the first drawing and any time after each following weekly drawing until 30 minutes before the next drawing. This cutoff will allow TMF to make sure all entries are entered into the spreadsheet properly. The purchaser of each ticket must include their legal name, phone number and email address.
There is no minimum and no maximum number of tickets that must be sold.
Each game will begin with a full deck of cards, including two jokers. All cards will be placed into envelopes and sealed. A number, from 1 through 54, will then be written on each sealed envelope. Each shuffling and sealing of envelopes will be recorded and posted online.
Each Sunday during the Raffle Period, at approximately 8:00 p.m. Central Time, a ticket number will be selected by random number generation from all tickets sold since the prior week’s Weekly Drawing. After selecting a contestant, we will randomly select a remaining envelope to open for them.
Unlike many other Queen of Hearts raffles, this fundraiser will draw 2 cards each Sunday, unless the Queen of Hearts is drawn on the first card drawn. This ensures that the Queen will be drawn within 27 weeks instead of 54 weeks. The Jackpot will continue to accumulate weekly until the QUEEN OF HEARTS is drawn. The Jackpot amount, based on ticket sales, will be updated weekly and prominently displayed on TMF’s website and Facebook page.
If the card drawn is the QUEEN OF HEARTS, the player will win 50% of the jackpot.
If one of the jokers is drawn, the player will receive $50. If one of the other three queens is drawn, the winning player will receive $25. All other cards have no payout value. All cards selected will be posted on TMF’s website and Facebook page. Winners will be contacted by the phone number or email address they supplied on their order and will also be posted on the TMF website and Facebook page. If a winner does not respond within 48 hours, the money will be returned to the pot and the game will continue.
Once a card is selected, it will be removed from play for the remainder of each game and will be shown face up on drawing days.
Each week after the drawing, all tickets for that week’s drawing will be destroyed.
The QUEEN OF HEARTS raffle will continue weekly until one of two things happens: 1) The Queen of Hearts is drawn, effectively ending the game, 2) the Jackpot reaches $500. If the jackpot reaches $500, the game will be terminated on the following Sunday at which time the Game-Master will continue to choose tickets, and each time a ticket is chosen, the selected envelope will be opened. If that number has been previously drawn, the lowest number envelope available will be drawn on his or her behalf. This will continue until someone draws the Queen of Hearts, ending the game. This means that, should the Jackpot reach $500, one of the tickets purchased that next week will win the Jackpot.
All winning players are responsible for any and all taxes that relate to his or her winnings. An I.R.S. form 1099-Misc will be issued to any player who has drawn the Queen of Hearts for winnings over $600. All information required to complete the 1099-Misc will be provided at the time of the drawing. The award for drawing the Queen of Hearts will not be paid until all information required to complete the 1099-Misc is provided. If a player is unwilling or unable to provide the necessary 1099-Misc information at that time, the successful player’s award will remain as a part of the Jackpot.
All players must be 18 years of age or older.
All winners must have a government issued photo ID to claim his or her prize.
Should there be any disagreement regarding the procedure or the results of the game, then the disagreement or results will be resolved in a timely manner by the Game-Master. The Game-Master’s determination will be final. From week to week, the undrawn envelopes will be kept in a secure location. All envelopes will be sealed with tamper evident tape and shown before each drawing.
All players, evidenced by the purchase of a ticket, agree to this form of binding arbitration.
The QUEEN OF HEARTS envelopes will be kept at The Mohawk Foundation’s primary location.
